Year 2 have been working hard on their Geographical skills this week. They have recapped the 7 continents of the world and sang a song to remind them! They then learnt about the UK and they identified the four countries within it, as well as their capital cities. They used an atlas in pairs to identify these areas and label them on a blank map of the UK.

In P:E they practised their co-ordination skills by catching a ball from a partner which was passed to them via a tennis racket.

I have been testing the children on their times tables facts and there is still lots more practice to be done! Knowing their times tables means recalling them without hesitation or the need to work them out! Please encourage your child to chant them daily whenever they get the opportunity e.g. in the car or walking to school etc. This is an invaluable bit of rote learning! If your child is confident at recalling their facts for the 2,5 and 10 times tables, please get them to learn the other related facts e.g. 2×5=10/5×2=10/10 divided by 2=5 / 10 divided by 5 = 2.

Also, 9 children were awarded reading raffle tickets for reading the minimum of 3 times a week at home. This is not enough! The expectation for Year 2 children is that they read 90 words per minute! This means reading without sounding out and with fluency. Please ensure they are reading daily!

Thank you for your continued support.

Have a brilliant weekend. 🙂

Miss Clifton.
