This week in Year Two, the children have been planning their own ‘journey’ tales’ in Literacy. They are focusing on writing descriptively through the use of adjectives, adverbs, similes and lots more! It is great to hear the children expressing ideas for phrases from reading they have done in class. This shows the value of reading in order to become a good writer!
In History, the children role played a Victorian hospital scene vs a Modern hospital scene. They really enjoyed it and went on to write about hospital conditions in both time periods. They used topic words such as; nowadays, in those days, unhygienic, hygienic, sanitary, unsanitary, wounds etc.
In Maths, the children have been exploring possibilities through the use of a range of operations (+, -, x). They consolidated their understanding of ‘sharing’ as a method for division and will be moving onto ‘grouping’ next week.
In P:E the children have been practising their jumping and balance skills with Coach Gill.
Please note that we have started a reading reward system as a school. This is to raise the profile of reading as it is vital for every child’s progress across all subjects! One of the main ways they can receive a raffle ticket (to be in with a chance of winning a free book!) is by reading to an adult at home (the adult must record this in the reading record) at least 3 times a week! This doesn’t mean the book needs to be finished each day of course! However, please record the date and which pages were read to an adult. 🙂 Happy Reading!
Have a wonderful weekend.
Miss Clifton 🙂
