What a brilliant week we have had!
Year 2 performed brilliantly in their Christmas Nativity play. They all spoke their lines and sang the songs clearly and expressively. I am very proud of them and I am sure you all are too! Thank you to everyone who helped with line learning at home because this makes a huge difference!
In other news… the children made sandwiches in D.T. and wrote instructions afterwards.

We have had a festive week! The children have engaged in Sparkle and Shine Morning and been rehearsing hard for their Nativity. It was lovely to see them in their costumes! Thank you for your support in providing clothes for the children to wear which will make it an even more special occasion for them. Thank you also to those of you who came to help out on Sparkle and Shine Morning.
In Literacy, the children have been learning the features of instructional writing e.g. bossy verbs (squeeze), time conjunctions (First, Next, Then, After that, Finally). They have also been encouraged to include adverbs (carefully) and conjunctions to extend their sentences.
Home Learning Opportunity: The children need to challenge themselves to use a range of conjunctions in order to include more detail in each sentence. For example, instead of writing, Next, brush your back teeth, they could write; Next, brush your back teeth softly or you may damage them. Conjunctions they have used so far include; or, but, and, because, when, so, so that. Some more challenging conjunctions include: while/whilst, even though, although, for, nor and until. You can support you child to achieve this expectation by challenging them verbally i.e. in their everyday speech or by asking them to expand simple sentences.
In D.T. the children have designed a sandwich which they will make next week. This will link to their instructional writing.
In Maths, the children have identified the British coins and notes and added money amounts in pence. This can easily be reinforced at home by asking children to find different totals in pence using the coins available in your purse!

Year 2 have been hard at work being authors this week! Every child has written, edited and begun publishing their very own story. They have written in five parts (Opening, Build up, Problem, Resolution and Ending). I have been really impressed with their independent writing.
However, the children need to practise spelling the Year 1 Common Exception words which were given out at the parent meeting. I will ensure more of these are sent home before the holidays.

We have been so busy this week, I haven’t even thought about taking photos! Apologies for this!
The children have been busy story writing in Literacy, incorporating the skills learned. These included; exclamation sentences (How shocked she was!), adverbial openers (Quickly, ), adjectives and past tense verbs.
In maths, the children have solved addition and subtraction word problems with a focus on key vocabulary e.g. how many left?/how many altogether or in total?
In other news, the children are working hard on their Christmas Nativity and we had a very positive rehearsal on Friday!
FYI: Please find a costume letter inside your child’s book bag. This details the item needed to be brought to school in a named plastic bag!
Home learning: spellings, Mathletics, Common Exception Word reading, spelling practise and reading to an adult.

We have had an action packed week in Year 2!
This week saw he burning of our beautiful Tudor houses! It was sad to see them burn but the children really enjoyed watching how quickly the flames spread from house to house due to their close proximity to one another!
The children have also been busy practising the number line method and column addition method in maths.
It was anti -bullying week this week and the children imagined pairs of animals that could form unlikely friendships despite their differences!
Please help your child to practise spelling the common exception words; they often muddle were and where!
Also, if your child has lines to learn for the play please ensure they know these by the end of next week as they can then focus on the acting and delivery of their lines!
